And while it looks like the chin bezel will make a return appearance on the 2019 smartphones, the top bezel has been replaced with a teardrop notch. Both the G7 and G7 Plus appear to have a glass backplate, though it doesn’t look like there will be wireless charging. A prominent dual-camera array and fingerprint sensor sit toward the top center of the phones. Models Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends Typically, we see three different G-Series phones each year. In addition to the standard handset, Lenovo creates a Plus model with higher-end specs, and a less-expensive Play edition.
So should we expect this same in 2019? Probably. Evan Blass evleaks Lenovo may have cut the Moto C, M, & X lines this year, but next year is going to see a record number of Moto G models: Standard, Play, Plus, and Power.

In addition to the typical players, Blass said there would also be a special Power Edition. Previously, My Smart Price a story stating there would only be two versions of the upcoming smartphone: The Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus. That story seems to be wrong, as FCC certification for the Moto G7 Play has surfaced. This means we’ll likely see the Moto G7, G7 Plus, and G7 Play, as with most other years. Specifications and camera Most of the hardware information we have on the upcoming Moto G7 and G7 Plus was gleaned from information on the Federal Communications Commission website. Listings for two model numbers, XT1952-2 and XT1965-3, are believed to be the G7 and G7 Plus. Specifications have also now appeared for the Moto G7 Play, and they suggest that phone will continue to be the entry-level runner for the range. The filings suggest the G7 and G7 Plus phones will have nearly identical specs. Both appear to have a Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage as a base option. That’s a pretty significant processor bump when compared to the Snapdragon 450 processor in the G6, but much more modest when compared to the Snapdragon 630 that runs the G6 Plus. It seems the G7 Play will be seeing a fairly major specs bump, too. The FCC filings suggest the Snapdragon 632 will be the phone’s CPU, with an Adreno 506 GPU. If true, that’s a major upgrade to the G6 Play’s Snapdragon 430. The battery may be a disappointment, however, being just 2,820mAh. There’s not a lot of information about the camera just yet. We do expect both phones to have dual sensors on the rear and a single selfie-cam. My Smart Price claims the G7 and G7 Plus will have a 12-megapixel front-facing camera along with 16- and 5-megapixel dual sensors — we’d definitely take those numbers with a grain of salt at this point since we’ve not heard similar specs from other sources. Software Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends Although many manufacturers choose to use older versions of Android in their budget phones, Lenovo typically bucks that trend. According to Android Authority and several other sites, the upcoming Moto G7 range will ship with Android 9.0 Pie. In addition to Motorola’s near-stock version of Android on its G-series smartphones, there are a few additional features that are actually useful. We’d expect to see Moto Actions, Motorola’s awesome gesture interface, make an appearance on the upcoming G7 phones, as well as Moto Voice.
